POLYTETRAFLUOROETHYLENE (popular known as TEFLON) was accidendally invented at the R & D laboratory of Messrs. E. I. Du Pont, U.S.A. in 1936. It is to-day one of the most useful engineering plastics in the world. Its excellent Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical and Thermal properties make it an ideal material for the most diverse applications.

Electrical properties of P.T.F.E. are made use of in various ways. The most importand of it is, by way of wires insulated with P.T.F.E. These wires are widely used in avionics, aircraft wiring, radar installations, missiles, satellites, space launching vehicle, flight simulators, navigation, meteorology, atomic power station, thermal power station, control panel, telecommunications, high temperature furnaces etc..

They, Space Application Cables ( a firm established by three brothers - all young engineers with thorough experience in this line) are leading manufacturers of P.T.F.E. insulated wires and cables in our country. We are manufacturing these wires and cables as pwer the specifications of Ministry of Defence, Government of India.

Properties

  1. Very low dielectric constant unaffected by temperature, frequency and humidity.
  2. Extremely low dissipation factor unaffected by exposure to humidity.
  3. Very high dielectric strength unaffected by thermal aging.
  4. High surface resistance unaffected by thermal aging.
  5. Higher volume resistivity unaffected by thermal aging.
  6. Very high operating temperature range from -75C to 250C.
  7. Completely resistant to attach by all chemicals except molten alkali metals and few fluorine compounds at high temperature and pressure.
  8. Occupies minimum space and weight compared to other types of insulation.

Applications

  1. Communication like wireless sets and mobile systems.
  2. Testing
  3. Aircraft, Aerospace research, Marine, Satelites, Radar Navigation and Meteorological applications.
  4. Avionics and Atomic Power Stations.
  5. Power Control.

Even with all the above PTFE/TEFLON is not the only fluorocarbon used for Insulated Wires. Extruded wires insulated with other fluorocabons like FEP, PFA, TEFZEL etc. are also available. But is is a fact that tape wrapped wires (PTFE is the most widely used fluorocarbon for tape wrapped insulations) have much greater perfection when it comes to centering of the conductor which is vital in critically designed cables. Thus, PTFE Tape wrapped wires manufactured by us offer best uniformity in thickness of insulation.

Range of Products and their related specifications are as given below.


Product Specification
1. PTFE/Teflon insulated silver plated copper wire. Hook up wires and multicore wires, as per standard sizes given in table I. American Specification MIL - W16878 D and Ministry of Defence Specification No. JSS-51005.
2. R. F. Co-Axial Cables namely, RG 187 A/U; RG 188 A/U; RG 195 A/U; RG 196 A/U. American Specification No. MIL-C-17 and Ministry of Defence Specification No. JSS-51100.
3. PTFE/TEFLON Sleeves (upto 3.0 mm.) American Specifications MIL-I-22129 and Ministry of Defence Specification No. JSS-54802.

Approvals

Please note that our PTFE insulated Wires are approved by L.C.S.O., Bangalore as per specification No. 51004 of the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. Each lot of our PTFE wires is manufactured and tested as per the procedure laid down in the avoce specification. The tests include High Voltage test, Spark Test, Di-electric Test, Conductor Resistance etc. as per the procedure mentioned in JSS specification No. 51004. We are also registered as Approved vendor (Vendor Code 0307) with C-DOT.

In the table given herewith dimensions of each size o wire namely, number and size of strands and diameter of conductor as well as diameter of insulated wires are given. Insulation thickness of these wires depend upon voltage rating. Generally three different voltage ratings are adopted for these wires. Different specification denotes different codes for each type of voltage rating.
